The new section of the line L9 between Zona Universitària and Barcelona – El Prat Airport has already entered into the final phase of testing. The entry into operation will take place on February 12.
In this way, participants attending the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, event which takes place from 22 to 25 February, already can travel by metro from the airport to Fira de Barcelona stops.
On 22 January, the Generalitat of Catalonia gave this section to transports metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) “so that it can begin what is called the March in white, i.e. the process of exploitation and operation of a section of line without travelers but with conditions, schedules and frequencies similar to those who will have the stretch of line in the time that is put into actual operation” , as explained by the Barcelona City Council.
More than 3,000 testing allowing driverless trains has been also performed last year.
Of the 15 stations, 3 are in the municipality of Barcelona, 5 in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, and 7 in El Prat de Llobregat, included two stations in the airport terminals.
